Food insecurity is a pressing SDP issue. “Backpack programs” supply students at participating schools with bags of food to bring home once per month, and these programs may have positive effects on academics and attendance. In 2019-20, the Office of Research and Evaluation (ORE) conducted a to inform how Eat Right Philly can support and expand food access programming across the District. This brief answers the following research questions:
- What factors contribute to the feasibility of backpack programs implemented in schools?
- What is the parent/guardian experience with the school backpack program?
