The Welcome Wagon activities are an initiative developed by the Multilingual Family Support Unit to educate limited-English proficient (LEP) families of the services, opportunities and resources available to students and families at the School District of Philadelphia. Through workshops and training facilitated by the Bilingual Counseling Assistants (BCAs) and offered at schools, community organizations, and partner sites, these sessions are offered in as many as the 40 languages spoken by the BCAs. Workshops address topics such as, but not limited to:
- Language Access: It’s Your Right
- The American School System
- Anti-Bullying and Anti-Harassment Policies
- Attendance and Truancy Prevention
- School Selection Process
- Safety at the Workplace
- What is the ESOL program
- Child Rearing and Disciplinary Practices
