Fewer meals served, coupled with increased cost for meal packaging, cold storage equipment, and PPE have resulted in substantial financial setbacks for the Division. In an effort to lessen the financial burden, Food Services has sought out grant opportunities for additional funding. In October, the Division was awarded funds from Truist Bank to support the cost of refrigerated truck rentals. Most recently, Share Our Strength awarded Food Services with a grant to cover the expenses incurred for the purchase of cold storage equipment. In addition to grant funding, Food Services has collaborated with industry partners on ways to increase meal participation. As a result, the Philadelphia community will see a few inflatable tube men (pictured above) waving them down to pick up school meals.
