To assure complete, accurate and timely financial records and financial reports which comply with the requirements and standards as set-forth by federal, state and local government regulatory agencies in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Within the scope of this mission is the responsibility to coordinate and direct all financial transactions recorded in the accounting system of the School District. This responsibility requires that we be service oriented relative to the financial needs of all schools and central offices while still assuring that all transactions adhere to School District policies and procedures, GAAP, GASB, and rules established by the authoritative governing bodies.
To be expert stewards of the School District of Philadelphia’s financial accounting, reporting and internal controls, oversight and compliance matters. The General Accounting Department employs competent and caring business professionals who are innovative, resourceful, collaborative, and helpful in facilitating the management and accountability of the School District’s financial resources.
