Orientation is a program that allows the District to ensure that new teacher hires are thoroughly prepared for the first day of teaching. Orientation is held for five-days in August with consolidated Saturday orientations held September – January for teachers hired later in the year. It allows us to provide timely, relevant information related to professional responsibilities, classroom management, and instruction. It also provides a unique opportunity to establish a strong adult culture within our newest cohort of teachers, to invest them with the District’s vision and to build a solid foundation to promote teacher retention.
SAVE THE DATE: AUGUST 10-14, 2020
This year, in response to the current climate, New Hire Orientation will take place virtually between the hours of 9:00am – 12:00pm Monday through Thursday and 9:00am-12:30pm on Friday. There will be opportunities to attend optional office hours outside of this timeframe. This information is shared in advance to allow participants time to plan for full engagement. Although participants are not required to report to a physical location, as in past years, we do want participants to have an understanding of best practices needed to get the most out of a virtual and dynamic New Hire Orientation. For example, being able to connect to reliable WiFi, finding a quiet spot where disturbances are minimal, and always having the video on while in session are practices that will support a successful participant experience. These are a few of the helpful hints found in the New Hire Newsletter that all newly hired teachers and counselors will receive throughout the summer.
Google training (Google Drive & Docs, Google Classroom, and Google Meet) will be offered to all new hired the week of August 17th as optional sessions. This is a great opportunity to build and refine skills to support virtual learning, given our current context.
If you are a newly hired Pre-K-12 teacher or counselor, please make sure to be on the lookout for more information regarding New Hire Orientation and email email@example.com if questions arise.
