Teacher Leader Academy

The objective of the Teacher Leader Academy is to strengthen teacher leadership by aligning teacher leader roles and development structures to competencies and indicator skills essential for success. This will be done by supporting teacher leaders through intentional learning experiences in a 3-day summer intensive cohort format with follow up professional development throughout the school year. Teacher leaders in the academy will have an opportunity to: (1) develop essential leadership skills, and (2) to establish a network of colleagues who can be a professional resource.

Academy teacher leaders participate in an application and selection process, which allows for a select cohort group of teacher leaders who possess elite leadership qualities.  Teacher leaders in the academy represent a holistic range of teacher leader roles throughout the district.  These roles include school based teacher leaders, literacy leads, math leads, high school teacher leaders, and special education liaisons.

Teacher leaders in the academy receive mandatory whole group professional development, along with optional learning sessions to reinforce the leadership competencies.  Additionally, teacher leaders receive year-round differentiated individualized coaching from an academic teacher leader coach.

In order to align development with the unique needs of the cohort, teacher leaders participate in needs assessment aligned with the District’s leadership competencies.  This allows for professional development to be customized for the specific needs of each cohort.
